After one year of the death of the former king, the people of Ogbe-Ijoh, Warri Kingdom in Warri South West Local Government area of Delta State has elected Chief Couple Oromoni as the King-elect to preside over the affairs of the Ijaw dominated Kingdom.
Chief Oromoni polled 8 votes to beat the two other contenders to the throne, Chiefs David Pere and Johnny Aribougha in the votes cast by delegates from the five ruling houses in the Kingdom.
Declaring Chief Oromoni as the new King-elect, the regent of the Kingdom, Chief Samson Mamamu said a selection/succession committee was put in place in October 30, last year to look for a qualified indigene from the next ruling house, Perebiri that was to produce the next king.
He disclosed that it was the task given to the committee that was to be unveiled today before the Ogbe-Ijaw Assembly which consists of traditional council, governing council, selected elders and six persons from each quarters.
The Chairman of the selection/succession committee, Elder  Jolomi said three candidates applied for the position from the ruling house and that after being made to go through some processes, including swearing an out at a high court to be of good behavior and accept the decision of the outcome of the election, went into an election which he said was done in secret ballot.
He thereafter presented the election materials, put in a sealed envelope, to the regent and other traditional Chiefs who counted the ballot papers in the presence of all after which Chief Couple Oromoni emerged the King-elect.
There was wide jubilation across the community on hearing the result of the process which threw up  Chief Oromoni as the King-elect, having being a former Chairman of Warri South West Local Government Area during which he executed several developmental projects for his people.
The King-elect, Chief Oromoni thanked the people of Ogbe-Ijoh for their support in his emergence as the King-elect and promised not to disappoint them as well as assuring them of more developmental projects to the kingdom.
