The Delta State Governor, H.E. Sheriff Oborevwori yesterday declared his support for Local Government autonomy to enable them execute people oriented projects as the only arm of government closest to grassroots in the administration of the State.

Chief Oborevwori made the declaration at the commissioning ceremony of the ultra-modern cottage hospital built by the Chairman of Warri South Local Government council Hon. (Dr) Michael Tidi at the Erejuwa play ground in Warri, saying that “we what the Chairman has built here, if given the required autonomy councils would be able to address the immediate necessary needs of the people.

The Governor charged other Councils Chairmen to emulate Dr. Tidi adding that the quality of job speaks volumes of the administrative sagacity of the Warri Council Chairman even as he revealed that his priority is always the peoples interest first and foremost in all his undertaking.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman of Warri South LGA Dr. Tidi gave a good stewardship of his administration since assuming office that has raised the standards of the council outlook, rejig staff attitude to work, improve the sanitation situation of the council area and most importantly restored peace and unity amongst the ethnic groups in Warri just as he thanked Governor Oborevwori for his support to the Council that made him achieve his modest best as he built on the legacies of his predecessor in office.

Dr. Tidi stated that though the 30-bed cottage hospital is well equipped, he however appeal to the Governor for proper staffing and even providing more equipment.

He appealed to the people to continue to support the Oborevwori administration as he has shown that he’s set to take the state to the next level of infrastructural growth and development.

In his brief remarks, former Governor of the state, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan applauded Dr Michael Tidi for his courage to turn the once violence prone playground into health Care Center to cater for all without regards to ethnic bias saying “the the history of the playground would one day be written for the public to see frantic efforts made to put the site into good use for the benefits of all”.

Chief Bright Okumagba who spoke on behalf of Warri indigenes promised to ensure that the hospital is maintained, safe and free of any further harassment as it meant for the general good.

The highlight of the ceremony was the commissioning of Cottage hospital spiced by Itsekiri and Urhobo traditional dances.

Present at the event were political gladiators in Warri including Dr. Oritsejafor, Abido, Hon. Austin Uroye and royal fathers of the council area including the Olu of Warri His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse 111 (CFR), the Oruosuen of Okere Urhobo and the regent of Agbarha Warri Kingdom respectively.
