Blind girl regains sight as Isoko North free eye screening ends
By Ovedhe Jerry
There was palpable joy and excitement as 17years old Ufuoma Uzuazoraro from Olomoro in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State started seeing for the first time since she was born 17 years ago.
According to the mother of the girl, Ufuoma was born blind and all hope was lost as efforts to make her see proved abortive since she couldn’t afford hospital bills.
Succor however came her way when she was informed of the free eye screening, treatment and surgery being organized by the Emmanuel Egbabor led administration in Isoko North Local Government.
She took the opportunity and eventually she was almost denied treatment because she isn’t from Isoko North Local Government. Her case was brought before the amiable Chairman of the Local Government Hon. Emmanuel Egbabor who graciously and compassionately approved that she be attended to.
Just like like a miracle, Ufuoma was operated upon by the experts led by Dr Ernest Ogbedo, Coordinator of Restore Sight Africa Initiative and to God be the glory she started seeing for the first time in 17years.
Her joy and that of her mother knew no bounds as they danced and praised God while also thanking and praying for the Isoko North Chairman, Hon. Emmanuel Egbabor for the opportunity to be healed of blindness.
An elated Emmanuel Egbabor, said he was pleased to have been an instrument of healing for Ufuoma and numerous others.
“I thank God for the opportunity to have been a source of healing to many of them that came for the exercise.
“Because of the feedback we are getting, we may have to plan for a second phase in the nearest future.” He said
Over 2,000 persons were screened and treated for various eye related issues while about 75 persons where operated upon and over 1,000 glasses were issued during the exercise that lasted for 4days.
