Following alleged crude oil spillage in and around Abiteye Flow Station belonging to Chevron Nigeria Limited CNL, indigenes of Deghele Community in Warri South-West Council Area of Delta State have appealed to the State Governor, Sen. (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa to send relief aids and materials to ameliorate the suffering of the people occasioned by the devastation.

In a letter addressed to Governor Okowa by the Deghele Community Chairman Mr. David Mode Akoma, he stated that the spill occurred on March 27th, 2021 saying that the spill traversed the land and waters of the community and has made fishing, the sole source of livelihood of the people impossible.

Mr. Akoma further stated that the spill “has damaged the people’s access to drinking and useable water even as it has made ingress and egress a murky journey”.

He emphasized that Deghele is under an unprecedented siege as the spill has continued unabated till date.

Mr. Akoma therefore called on the state governor to come to their aid by providing relief materials to cushion the effects of the crude oil spillage.

However CNL General Manager, Government, Policy and Public Affairs Mr. Esimaje Brikins in a statement said the company pipelines facilities has not failed in recent times but added that they are working round the clock to ensure a safe and healthy working environment in all their areas of operations in collaboration with all relevant community stakeholders.
