2026: Oborevwori Presents ₦1.664 Trillion Budget Proposal To Delta Assembly

Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Governor of Delta State has presented a ₦1.664 trillion budget proposal for 2026, representing a 70% increase over the previous year.

The budget allocates ₦499bn (30%) to recurrent costs and ₦1.165trn (70%) to capital projects, signalling a heavy push for infrastructure and development.

In his speech during the presentation of the budget proposal for the 2026 Fiscal Year, Rt. Hon. Oborevwori said that the expanded spending plan aims to accelerate statewide development and strengthen key economic sectors, he described it as a strategic plan to accelerate development across the state.

The governor, who addressed lawmakers at the Delta State House of Assembly, said the proposal represents a ₦685 billion increase, amounting to 70% growth over the 2025 appropriation, explaining that the expanded budget is designed to strengthen critical sectors and deliver key infrastructure projects.

According to the breakdown, ₦499 billion, representing 30% of the total budget is allocated for recurrent expenditure, covering personnel costs, overheads, and other administrative requirements.

The remaining ₦1.165 trillion, which accounts for 70%, is earmarked for capital expenditure, adding that this portion will fund infrastructure upgrades, economic expansion initiatives, and long-term investment programmes across the state.

Rt. Hon. Oborevwori noted that the substantial rise in capital spending reflects the administration’s commitment to accelerating development and improving service delivery.

He further noted that the 2026 Fiscal Plan is aligned with his administration’s long-term growth agenda and is expected to drive economic activity, job creation, and improved social services.
