OGHENETEJIRI NYERHOVWO
Dr. Paul Bebenimibo, representative of Ijaw Ethnic Nationality on the Board of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) Dr. Paul Bebenimibo has inspected the on-going construction of a six (6) classrooms block phase 1, at Ogeh Primary School, Kunukunuma Community, Warri South West Local Government Area.
Speaking after the inspection, Dr. Bebenimibo disclosed that the project was occasioned by the need to renovate the 25 year-old Primary School which was no longer conducive for pupils to learn.
On the difficulties of embarking on projects in the riverine area, Dr Bebenimibo said that the nearest source of materials required for the execution of the project is Warri which is about two hundred (200) nautical miles from the community.
According to Dr. Bebenimibo, “the materials are usually transported with barges and tug boats from Warri. We promised to do things differently, a decision which influenced our embarking on town hall meetings.”
While expressing appreciation to the State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa for the project, the Ijaw Representative noted that the completion of the six classrooms block will enhance teaching and learning which will in turn enhance education standard in the area.
Also Speaking, Chief Moses Bebenimibo, Chairman, Kunukunuma Federated Communities, said that the project was timely and would be of immense benefit to the people of the area.
The Chairman of Kunukunuma Federated Communities on behalf of the Communities expressed appreciation to the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) and Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, Governor of Delta State for making it possible for the project to kick off.
The trio of Evangelist Joel Azapere, Pastor Abraham B.A. Tebiano and Engr. Cyril Okorafor, (the site engineer), were unanimous in their speech on the benefits of the project to the community, as pupils will no longer travel long distances to nearby communities for the purpose of getting Primary School Education.
