Bayelsa 2015: Tatua meets Niger Delta leaders
The Niger Delta People’s Movement on Sunday reached out to top leaders of the region, urging them to support Chief Timipre Sylva to be the governor of Bayelsa State.
The group which also outlined the qualities the people should look for in the next governor of the state, called on Governor Seriake Dickson to forget his second term ambition.
“The next governor must have strong vision, ability to articulate the vision and willingness to make changes. The person needs to be compassionate, be in touch with the common people and be able to galvanize them into action. We do not believe Seriake Dickson will be a governor after the December election. He could cause damage to the people of the region, particularly Bayelsa State. The consequences of another PDP administration in the state will be even more catastrophic” the group said.
At a meeting in Abuja with prominent politicians from the region, the group warned those working against Sylva, urging traditional rulers, women and youths in the state to support him.
“Bayelsa State needs a well-focused manager who has the interest of the state at heart; someone who is administratively skillful; someone who will deliver. Sylva possesses the ability, courage, sincerity and guiding philosophy to provide the right leadership for the betterment of the people”.
In a statement signed by the spokesperson of the People’s Movement, Mrs. Ibifuro Tatua, the group urged Bayelsans to ensure that Sylva becomes the next governor in view of placing the state on the right path.
“We have been following the activities of Chief Timipre Sylva. He is forthright, honest and meek in attitude. He also understands issues of both economics and socio-political weight and has the capacity to drive the state in the direction that we want it.”
“Sylva is a role model and the most capable person to be governor of Bayelsa State in December 2015. He is a committed member of the APC and also receptive to new ideas which are needed in repositioning the state. He has the requisite appeal and political structure to clinch the governorship ticket of the APC” the group said.
The group which also described Sylva as a charismatic leader with a strong moral belief of how things should be, said the former governor is the perfect person for the governorship job.
“He is a stickler for hard work and excellence. He is a man with incredible reach and clout. He is more accepted in the state than others aspiring to be governor”.
It advised him not be intimidated by former President Goodluck Jonathan, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha and others.
“God gives power to whomever He wishes. We are confident and hopeful that with God on our side, no obstacle can stand in his way to the Bayelsa Government House” the statement added.
