PINL- A LEADING LIGHT IN NIGERIA’S ENERGY SECURITY LANDSCAPE- Niger Delta Group

A Niger Delta Group, the Niger Delta Watchdog has extol the role PINL is playing in playing in the Nigerian energy value chain.
According to a statement released to the media on Monday, September 8th, 2025, the group stressed that – Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited (PINL) has over the years since its establishment in 2019 provided solutions and excellent services in engineering, procurement, construction, maintenance and security services that consistently met local and international standards and help the State to achieve its revenue targets in the oil and gas sector.
It’s a wholly Nigerian company that provides various services to operators and key players in the Nigerian oil and gas sector through the deployment of state-of-the-art technology and modern-day equipment to deliver projects.
Recently, at its August stakeholders’ meeting in Port Harcourt, the company’s General Manager, Community and Stakeholders Relations, Dr. Akpos Mezeh, stated that PINL recorded zero cases of pipeline vandalism on the Trans Niger Pipeline, TNP, in the last one month – a feat he said has directly contributed to increased national crude oil production and revenue for Nigeria.
This achievement underscores the company’s effective community collaboration and federal security support in safeguarding oil and gas assets along the Eastern Corridor.
Through these strategic engagements, the company not only empower host communities with the necessary tools but also forge a united front that dismantles the danger posed by pipeline vandalism, crude oil theft, and environmental pollution.
The Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, recently announced that the Federal Government had met its 2025 oil and gas sector revenue targets largely due to peace and stability in host communities.
This is obviously due to the effects of the security collaborations of PINL with host communities and the intervention of special taskforce of government to swiftly arrest suspects attempting to breach the Trans Niger Pipeline, TNP, in Bodo, Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State.
PINL surveillance structure, due to its improved surveillance and rapid dispute resolution in communities has uncovered illegal refinery infrastructure, in collaboration with the Special Prosecution Taskforce recently inaugurated by the Federal Government.
The company’s strong community alliance and its commitment to local content-driven projects reaffirms its corporate social responsibility to engage and train youths and women, resolve dispute resolution in communities, and foster the unity that enables the host communities to work together in concert with the objective of government to achieve its revenue drive.
The strategy by the company to engage youths from host communities for surveillance and field operations as part of its community engagement and security efforts has reduced vandalism and increased oil production.
Its partnership with local residents to protect pipelines is noted by various authorities as a successful part of the company’s operational strategy. PINL employs community members, particularly youths, for pipeline surveillance and field operations. This creates local jobs and fosters a sense of ownership and responsibility for pipeline security.
The collaborative efforts between PINL, the National Security Adviser’s office, and the host communities have led to a significant reduction in illegal bunkering activities and a boost in oil production, benefiting the economy.
Beyond surveillance, PINL provides other forms of support, such as scholarships for community members and skill acquisition programs, to improve their welfare and opportunities.
Its scholarship initiative is a corporate social responsibility (CSR) program providing educational opportunities to students from its host communities along the Trans-Niger Pipeline (TNP), including Rivers, Bayelsa, Imo, and Abia states.
Launched to foster community development, reduce restiveness, and empower youth, the initiative awards scholarships to support students pursuing higher education and contributing to socioeconomic growth.
In a recent announcement in June 2025, PINL approved scholarships for over 1,000 students, providing three scholarships per community across its 215 host communities.
PINL also offers other corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, including skill acquisition programs, to support host communities. Initiatives like skills acquisition programs and job provision for local youths are aimed to build a sense of ownership and ensure protection for the pipeline infrastructure by fostering goodwill and contributing to regional development.
Another CSR initiative by PINL is its consistent monthly stipends to community leaders as part of its commitment to community engagement and stability for the Trans-Niger Pipeline (TNP) security efforts. These payments have contributed to maintaining peace and providing adequate protection for the TNP, according to community spokespeople.
The stipends are a component of PINL’s broader strategy of fostering strong relationships and collaboration with host communities through ongoing engagement and dialogue.
The stipends are designed to enhance community buy-in for pipeline protection, reduce unemployment through jobs like pipeline surveillance, and promote stability within the communities where PINL operates.
In addition to stipends, PINL provides medical outreach as part of its comprehensive CSR strategy to support community growth and local ownership.
In addition to this, PINL provides relief materials to communities affected by events like the 2022 and 2023 floods. Another CSR initiatives by PINL is the Christmas packages as part of its broader CSR efforts.
PINL’s inclusive approach and commitment to community development help foster a sense of ownership and build stronger relationships with host communities.
The company has been described as a responsible entity that provides relief and assistance during disasters and times of need, according to Punch Newspapers.
PINL has through its efforts fostered strong relationships, conducting social investments and empowerment programs, distributing palliatives to host communities, and partnering with stakeholders to deter illegal activities and reduce crude oil theft.
While specific details on billboards, jingles, and news reports are not provided, PINL’s comprehensive approach like community dialogue, local stakeholders, and corporate social responsibility initiatives helped to achieve near-zero infractions on oil facilities.
As it actively engages with communities along the Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP) to build trust, foster a united front against vandalism, and build a strong relationship, its partnership with host communities, non-state actors, local government chairmen, and government security agencies to form a strong defense against pipeline sabotage became a model for others to learn from.
The company’s visible efforts have contributed to higher crude oil production and a reduction in illegal bunkering activities. Community leaders and stakeholders have expressed confidence in PINL’s operations, with some urging the Federal Government to extend their surveillance contract beyond the eastern corridor.
PINL has demonstrated capacity and revealed what strategies work in staying ahead of others as the leading light in Nigeria’s energy security landscape.
