Jite Brown

By Zik Gbemre

I consider it necessary to implore the Delta State Government, to direct the Udu LGA Chairman, Mr. Jite Brown, to carry out his statutory function in Restoring traffic sanity along the Udu road, particularly at the popular Jigbale market, along the udu road by Aladja junction, and also along Udu road by Ubogo Market, which are often congested with serious disturbing traffic jams for motorists, and even pedestrians. The said traffic jams is actually caused by the traders in the stated Markets, who sell their wares/goods right in the centre of the road, especially in the evenings between the hours of 4pm to 9pm, on a daily basis. The situation is usually worse during the weekends.

Though, I have written severally to the said Chairman of Udu Local Govt Council, and Udu council of Chiefs/Elders/Udu President-General, about this issue, and the need to clear the roads to allow free flow of traffic, but the said Chairman of Udu Local Govt Council has refused to listen to my advice, or do anything about addressing this problem.

I have countlessly appealed to Mr. Jite Brown, to clear the said road areas along Udu road, especially at these hours of the day. But he refused to do the rightful thing. We are not begging him for a favour, but only to do the job he was elected to do. And we do not see why this should be an issue of contention or difficult to handle, for the Chairman of Udu Local Govt Council to be dilly-dallying with it.

We therefore consider it expedient to appeal to Governor Okowa, to order the Chairman of Udu Local Government Council, to promptly clear the popular Udu road and the stated market areas for free flow of traffic by motorists/tricyclists, Okada riders and pedestrians. The Chairman of Uvwie Council, Mr. Samson Onoyake, had actually done something similar when he cleared the popular Effurun Market, and Jakpa junction in Ekpan, for easy flow of traffic at anytime of the day, even during Effurun Market days, which used to cause serious traffic jams. But now, that is no more, as the traders have been given a limit and restricted from encroaching on the road to display their goods/wares. The Chairman of Uvwie Local Government Council is obviously working. But we cannot say same for the Chairman of Udu Council, who is really not working. But only causing more hardship for motorists/road users plying the entire Udu road, and down to Otor-Udu/Jeremi junction.

The Delta State Governor should call Mr. Jite Brown, to order, as the Chairman of Udu Council. Nobody forced him, or placed a gun on his head to be elected Chairman of Udu LGA. Governor Okowa should warn him, and have him sit up in performing his duties. We cannot continue like this. Weekends (from Fridays to Sundays, between 4pm to 9pm) are usually hectic and crazy with traffic jams along the stated areas of Udu road, as vehicles are seen deliberately parked on the remaining section of the Udu road at these three spots, to buy commodities. And in the process, they block the remaining part of the said road, all of this complicates the traffic jams in these areas.

We ask that this issue should be given adequate and prompt attention.
