Employ Estate Surveyors and Valuers, Organisations Charged

Organizations have been charged to employ Estate Surveyors and Valuers in order to act as conduit between organizations and Facility Management Providers.

A cross section of participants at the one-day Mandatory Continuing Professional and Development s Seminar Organized by the Enugu State Branch of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers.

The charge was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (MCPD) Seminar organized by the Enugu State Branch of Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) in conjunction with Estate Surveyors and Valuers Registration Board of Nigeria (ESVARBON), held recently at the Oaklands Event Centre, Ebeano Tunnel, Enugu.

The communiqué was signed by ESV (Dr.) Chris Ezeudu, Chairman, MCPD Committee, Enugu State branch and ESV Cosmas Ezeh, Chairman, NIESV Enugu State Branch.

The one day seminar with the theme “The Place of Facility Management In Sustaining Assets Values in Nigeria,” harped on the need for facility managers to imbibe some specific tools to ensure effective facility management to ensure sustainability of assets.

The communiqué recommended that there was need for organizations to employ Estate Surveyors and Valuers to act as conduit between the organizations and facility management providers.

It also recommended the need for Estate Surveyors and Valuers in Nigeria to adopt their own definition of Facility Management (FM) to reflect indigenous practices and experience.

According to the communiqué also, the right time was now for Estate Surveyors and Valuers to key into the trend of global change in facility management so as to remain relevant, adding that there should be repositioning of the concept of Facility Maintenance Management by positioning facility management in capital budgets of parastatals / organisations.

The communiqué further recommended that there should be improvement in Facility Management curricula in Institutions of higher learning and other institutions that organize facility management training so as to be holistic in approach.

Part of the communiqué read; “Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers should organize more seminars and workshops on Facility Management so as to acquaint members of emerging trends in facility management. Facility Management is very important for the growth of every organization and as such creates good opportunities for Estate Surveyors and Valuers.
