Sheriff Oborevwori U-17 Unity Cup Kicks Off August 3 in Delta Central

WARRI – The stage is set for the much-anticipated Sheriff Oborevwori Under-17 Unity Cup, which will officially kick off on August 3, 2025, in Delta Central Senatorial District, showcasing young football talent from across the region.
The grassroots tournament, which is proudly sponsored by Chief Amurun Idama Esq, Chairman of Arthur Ferdinand Ltd, is aimed at promoting unity, sportsmanship, and football development among youths in the eight local government areas that make up Delta Central.
The inauguration and draws for the competition were held on July 13, 2025, at Kariot Hotel and Suites, where members of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) were officially inaugurated. The LOC is chaired by former Nigeria international, Mr. Edema Fuludu Mon, and includes 15 key committee members alongside 16 sub-committee members.
The competition will adopt a round-robin format, with all eight LGAs facing off in weekend matches to be played at various designated venues across Delta Central.
The opening match will see Ethiope East take on Ughelli North on August 3 at the Ekpan Police Station football field, setting the tone for what promises to be an electrifying tournament.
Prize breakdown for the tournament includes:
₦5 million grand prize for the winner, alongside a giant gold trophy and golden medals
₦3 million for the runner-up
₦2 million for third place
₦1 million for fourth place
₦1 million appearance fee for each participating LGA
Individual awards and consolation prizes will also be presented to the highest goal scorer, best goalkeeper, best player, most valuable team, and best coach.
Speaking at the draw ceremony, LOC Chairman Edema Fuludu emphasized the significance of the tournament in grooming young talent and fostering peace and unity through sport. He lauded the commitment of the sponsor, Chief Amurun Idama, and expressed confidence in the capacity of the LOC to deliver a memorable competition.
