DELTA SPORTS COMMISSION BOARD: MERIT, COMPETENCE SHOULD TAKE PRECEDENCE OVER POLITICAL CONSIDERATION – JALLA

The Chairman Board of Trustees of Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria ( PFAN) Prince Harrison Jalla in his quest to see a better Delta State Sport Commission board put in place has once again advised the state Governor RT. HON Sherif Oborevwori to consider merit and competence above political consideration.

Jalla noted that nurturing talents into world class athletes needs special skills, impartation of knowledge and mentorship.

“The pace setting Governor of Delta State RT.HON. Sheriff Oborevwori must be different and remember that Delta State is home to Famous Schools like Hussey college Warri, Urhobo college Effurun, Government college Ughelli and St. Patrick college Asaba.

“The success of Nigeria Sports in all ramifications is mainly built on the products of these schools. Sports is not a sector to be toyed with because if properly managed it will export talents and services,” Jalla said.

Furthermore, he said “Sports has been grossly neglected in Delta State since the advent of the 4th Republic, a lip service attention cannot be given to a key sector that can change the Economic fortunes of the State.”

Buttressing his point Jalla added that Former Military Governor of defunct Midwest Region/ Bendel State Dr. Samuel Ogbemudia of blessed memory in his 9 years in office demonstrated how sports can be the central focus of a State.

“Your Excellency, I want to strongly advise that the incoming Delta State Sports Commission Board should be an unimpeded collection of ASTUTE Sports Administrators and an exclusive preserve of retired Sportsmen and Women moving forward.

“Delta State can never be in short supply with the likes of former African Footballer of the year Victor Ikpeba, Elder Eddington Kuejubola, Sam Sodje, Clement Temile, The Kator Brothers Sunny and Joshua Kator, Efan Ekoku, Precious Monye, Francis Monidafe, Prince Afejuku, Sam Okpodu, Paul Obire and many more who have the competence to drive new Sports policy that will put Delta State youths in the world map of their chosen career in sports,” he added.
