Latimore urges new Delta NUJ Chairman, Oyowe to be magnanimous in Victory
…expresses confidence in exco’s ability to upscale practice standard
Spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2023 general elections in Delta State, Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, has urged the new Chairman of the Delta State Chapter of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, to sustain humility and be magnanimous in Victory by extending the olive branch to his fellow unionists, and co-contestants who lost out in the just concluded state election held on October 18.
His candid appeal was contained in a congratulatory message to Comrade Oyowe and members of the state new executive of NUJ, and made available to newsmen in Asaba on Saturday, pointing out that there is the need for watertight synergy across board, birth new ideas and raise practice standard, so as to take the union to the next enviable level in the state.
Oghenesivbe, noted that the election was ajudged to be peaceful, transparent, free and fair, pointing to show that practicing Journalists and stakeholders in the state knew ahead who they wanted in various positions, culminating in the landslide victory of the Oyowe team that was carefully selected and groomed for the new task ahead.
The Communication Strategist and Distinguished Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Information and Strategy Management, Dfcism, emphasized the need for Comrade Oyowe and his team to partner consistently with the government of the day, led by His Excellency, governor Sheriff Oborevwori, saying that the Press, being the fourth estate of the realm, as enshrined in the Constitution plays multifaceted positive roles in good governance through objective, but nonpartisan reportage of government achievements, public opinions, policies and programmes as the watchdog of the larger society.
“I wish to humbly join our indefatigable and excessive local content Governor of Delta State, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, to congratulate the brand new State Chairman of NUJ, Comrade Churchill Oyowe and his team.
“Your victory came at a time the union earnestly yearned for a consummate team player, new ideas, focused leadership and robust partnership with government in fostering a synergy that would help propagate and consistently articulate the M.O.R.E agenda of governor Oborevwori administration.
“I want to strongly believe that the new Delta NUJ led by you, Comrade Oyowe, came prepared to make a difference, and in doing so, you must of a necessity carry along your predecessors, reconcile all that must be reconciled, and together hit the ground running to fulfil all your electioneering campaign promises for the benefit of members of the union in the state.
“It is worthy of note that Governor Oborevwori’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Ksc, is also a great unionist, which is why the union and government would generally flow together without rancour in all ramifications, especially in the discharge of your constitutionally assigned responsibilities in the state.
“I wish you and your team a successful tenure with the hope that the union and the rest of us shall continue to have each other’s back, as we work together harmoniously to Advance Delta in this dispensation,” Oghenesivbe said.
