Oborevwori, Honoured with Honorary Doctorate at Novena University Convocation
Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has been awarded an honorary Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) in Public Policy and Strategy by Novena University, Ogume. The recognition, presented during the university’s 5th combined convocation ceremony at Amai campus, celebrates his remarkable achievements in governance and commitment to advancing the state.
Governor Oborevwori expressed his gratitude for the honor, noting that it serves as both motivation and a challenge to push forward his administration’s vision encapsulated in the M.O.R.E Agenda. He emphasized the policy’s focus on sustainable social and economic development through infrastructural renewal, youth empowerment, and the creation of a favorable business environment.
“Our administration’s M.O.R.E agenda embodies priorities for growth through road construction, youth development, and business support. Over 200,000 individuals have benefited from grants and business initiatives aimed at alleviating economic hardships,” Governor Oborevwori stated. He reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the sustainability of these policies moving forward.
The Governor also commended Novena University’s Pro-Chancellor, Chuks Ochonogor, for his vision and dedication in providing quality education. “As the first private university in Delta State, Novena University has made significant strides in improving infrastructure, expanding its academic curriculum, and creating a conducive learning environment,” Oborevwori remarked.
The Chancellor of Novena University, HRM King Alfred Diete-Spiff, praised the university as a model of hard work and dedication. He called on Nigerian leaders to govern with vision and integrity for the betterment of the nation.
Chuks Ochonogor, Chairman and Pro-Chancellor of Novena University, highlighted the institution’s impact on the local economy, citing job creation and community development as key outcomes of its presence. He also noted that Novena University, founded in 2005, has expanded from three to seven colleges, including new faculties of Medicine and Law.
In his address, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Godwin Nduka, celebrated the university’s achievements and its distinction as the first private university in Delta State. He also lauded Governor Oborevwori for his leadership in areas such as timely salary payments, infrastructure development, and improved security.
Among the graduands was the Delta State Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, who was awarded a Master of Science degree in Accounting.
