Secretary to the State Government and Chairman of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Delta State Governing Board, Rt. Hon. Ovie Agas, Thursday, said the scheme was a rewarding one, just as he said that the programme was well designed to build Nigerian youth for a great future.

Rt. Hon Festus Ovie Agas

Hon. Agas, who stated this at the swearing – in ceremony  of 2015  Batch “A” (Stream 11) corps members deployed to Delta State, at the NYSC Orientation camp, Issele-Uku, Delta  state, explained that all the activities packaged for the three weeks course are geared towards building youths for nation building and development.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet and Administration, Mr. Ngozi Isobor,  Agas reminded the corps members that they are not permitted to undertake any journey outside their places of primary assignment during the service year.

He added that where and when it becomes necessary to travel, they must obtain written approval from the state Coordinator of NYSC.

Also, the State Coordinator, NYSC Delta State,  Mrs. Olive Etukudo, used the occasion to congratulate the Governor of Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa and his Deputy, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro, on their success in the gubernatorial election and subsequent swearing – in and inauguration.

Mrs. Etukudo, who noted that a total of number of 2, 342 corps members made up of 1, 230 males and 1, 112 females have been registered, said the corps members have so far demonstrated a very high sense of discipline and understanding.

She highlighted some of the challenges faced by the management in the course of their duties, which include, non-availability of utility vehicles for inspection of corps members serving across the state, insufficient hostel accommodation, toilets and bathrooms for the teeming number of corps members deployed to the state.

Others include are, non release of the 2015 subvention, lack of offices, lack of perimeter fence round the orientation camp making it porous to hoodlums and criminals. She, however, appealed to the state governor to use his good office to consider the urgent challenges of the Delta State NYSC.
