NMU Staff Back Council’s Appointment of Principal Officers, Condemn False Allegations

By Francis Sadhere, Warri

Staff of the Nigeria Maritime University (NMU), Okerenkoko in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, have thrown their weight behind the Governing Council’s recent appointments of principal officers, describing the selection process as transparent, merit-based, and deserving of commendation.

In a press statement signed by Comrade Moses Oghenekome Ogege, Mr. Fine-Boy Doubra, Mrs. Sarah Kattey, Mr. Ossa, and Mr. Alen Igwe, the staff condemned what they termed “baseless allegations” circulated by faceless individuals in an attempt to discredit the Council’s actions.

“Their allegations are not only baseless but also a disservice to the truth and to the progress NMU has recorded under the current leadership,” the statement read.

The staff explained that the appointment process began with an official advertisement approved by the Council and published in two national newspapers. Applications were publicly invited for the posts of Registrar, Bursar, and University Librarian.

A Selection Committee was formed, and three independent consultants—each assigned to one of the roles—were engaged to ensure objectivity. After a rigorous screening and interview process, the top-scoring candidates were recommended and subsequently appointed.

“This process was a model of fairness and due process. It adhered strictly to principles of merit and integrity. One, therefore, wonders what the anonymous authors of these claims consider lacking in transparency,” the statement added.

In recognition of the efforts of the Council, the staff passed a unanimous vote of confidence in the leadership, with special commendation to the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Alhaji Abdulahi Bardi, for his visionary guidance.

They urged the public and stakeholders to disregard attempts at misinformation and affirmed NMU’s commitment to building a world-class institution that serves both national and global maritime needs.
