A Niger Delta Activist, Apostle (Dr.) Clement Tonfawei has thrown his weight behind the re-election bid of President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 general election, saying nobody can stop the President.
In an exclusive interview with National Reformer, today in Warri, Delta State, Tonfawei lauded the achievements of President Jonathan and implored Nigerians to give him another chance by voting him in the forthcoming general elections.
“I want to say that I am impressed with the performance of President Jonathan so far. He has beaten the records of past leaders of this country and this is why Nigerians should vote for him again, because nobody can stop the President from contesting in 2015,” he said.
According to him; “The constitution allows the President to contest in 2015 and as long as he has the constitutional backing, there is nobody whether from the West, North, East or South that can prevent the President in his re-election bid. He has performed as a President and this is why Nigerians should vote for him and even mount pressure on him to contest the 2015 Presidential election.”
He urged Nigerians to be patient with President Jonathan, saying that his achievements so far had shown that he will deliver more dividends of democracy to Nigerians if given a second chance.
Speaking on the letter written by former President, Olusegun Obasanjo to President Jonathan, Tonfawei described the letter as unfortunate one coming from a former President of the country.
On the issue of alleged training of snipers, Tonfawei charged former President Obasanjo to provide proof of evidence that President Jonathan was actually training snipers to eliminate some persons in the country.
The Niger Delta activist, also faulted the amnesty programme of the federal government, stressing that the issues that brought about militancy in the Niger Delta region were still staring the people in face.
“Amnesty is not a solution to the Niger Delta problem. The amnesty programme is self centered and those people managing it are selfish. When they were setting up the amnesty programme, I said then, that it will not work. I said it was going to cause a bigger problem for the country. Now look at what we have now. We now have Boko Haram and who knows what we are going to have tomorrow,” he said.
On the East/West Road project, Tonfawei described the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsdey Orubebe, as a total failure, calling on the Federal Government to probe him for the slow pace of the project.
