In a show of compassion and support, the member representing Ughelli North, Ughelli South, and Udu Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Rev. Francis Ejiroghene Waive, recently extended a helping hand to the displaced residents of the Ewu-Okuama Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Delta State.
The donation, which took place in Ewu town within the Ughelli South Local Government Area, aimed to alleviate the suffering faced by the displaced Okuama indigenes following the devastating military retaliation that resulted in the destruction of their homes.
The military action was in response to the tragic killing of 17 military personnel, including a lieutenant colonel, by unknown gunmen in the Okuama community.
Expressing his heartfelt sympathy for the plight of the Okuama residents, Hon. Francis Waive emphasized the importance of standing in solidarity with those affected by the unfortunate events.
He reiterated his commitment to supporting the constituents, particularly during these challenging times.
The Delta State Government’s establishment of the IDP Camp provided a temporary refuge for the displaced Okuama residents who have been left homeless since the military incursion in March of this year.
During his visit to the IDP Camp, Rev. Waive commended the efforts of the Chairman of the Ewu-Okuama Internally Displaced Persons Camp Management Committee, Mr. Abraham Ogbodo, and his team for their dedication in caring for the well-being of the Okuama people residing in the camp.
He assured the displaced individuals that he would continue to advocate for their needs and welfare.
He further assured the people of Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu Federal Constituency that he would continue to work for them and protect their interests at all times.
Responding, the chairman of the Camp Management Committee, Mr. Ogbodo, commended Waive for the donation.
Ogbodo, a former editor of the Guardian Newspapers, called on Nigerians, Urhobos and humanitarian groups to come to the aid of the Okuama community.
The generous donation of food items and other essential materials by Hon. Francis Waive serves as a beacon of hope for the displaced residents of the Okuama community, offering them some relief and comfort in the midst of their adversity.
The lawmaker’s gesture has shown the importance of unity, compassion, and support in times of crisis, reflecting a spirit of solidarity and resilience within the community.
