Mulade Hails Oborevwori’s Infrastructural Strides, Seeks Riverine Inclusion

From Francis Sadhere, Delta
A Delta State-born peace and development advocate, Comrade (Dr.) Mulade Sheriff, has lauded Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for what he described as an “infrastructural revolution” across Delta State, noting that the governor’s developmental strides have won the hearts of Deltans irrespective of political affiliations.
Mulade, who made the commendation in a statement on Thursday, praised Governor Oborevwori for engaging construction giant Julius Berger Nigeria Plc to handle key flyover projects in Uvwie Local Government Area around the Warri axis, as well as the proposed Ughelli and Agbor flyovers, which he said would significantly ease traffic congestion in those areas.
According to him, the Oborevwori administration’s commitment to constructing stormwater drainages and several road projects across the state is a clear demonstration of the governor’s dedication to improving infrastructure and the welfare of the people.
While commending the progress made so far, the peace advocate appealed to the governor to extend similar development initiatives to the riverine communities dominated by the Ijaw and Itsekiri ethnic nationalities, stressing that these areas have continued to play a critical role in sustaining the state’s economy.
“It is pertinent to remind the governor that Ijaw and Itsekiri areas contribute over 60 percent of the state’s economy through oil and gas resources and the blue economy, which make Delta one of the richest states in Nigeria. Yet, there are no significant projects in these areas worthy of note despite their huge contributions,” Mulade stated.
He urged the governor to ensure that the 2026 Delta State Budget gives critical consideration to riverine development by accommodating key projects such as the Ayakoromo Bridge, Torugbene–Ojobo Road, and Omadino–Okerenkoko–Kokodiagbene–Escravos Road, among others.
“These areas deserve meaningful development beyond elections and vote-seeking in 2027 and beyond. The riverine people are tired of 1 or 2-kilometre concrete walkways regarded as roads. We need the coastal communities connected to the upland for economic viability and growth,” he emphasized.
Mulade further advised that engaging reputable contractors like Julius Berger for major projects in the riverine areas would ensure durability and sustainability, adding that such a move would etch Governor Oborevwori’s name in gold and win the admiration of the people.
He recalled that former Governor Chief James Onanefe Ibori remains celebrated for constructing the Bomadi and Omadino bridges, which successfully linked parts of the riverine areas to the upland, expressing optimism that Oborevwori could build on that legacy.
“The governor has done very well in stormwater and road projects; extending this gesture to the economic sources of the state will not only balance development but also strengthen the unity and prosperity of Delta State,” he added.
