By Francis Sadhere
A Non-Governmental Organization, (NGO), Ivory Whetstones and Mentors Foundation International, publishers of SEE Inspirations Magazine on Friday provided Uzere Community with a borehole and empowered fifty(50) widows from different communities in Delta State.
Founder of the Foundation, Dr. (Mrs) Lauretta Emiakpo Ogrih, who commissioned the borehole at Uzere explained that the purpose of provision of the water and empowerment project was to aid the widows in the affected communities in farming and provide potable water for the people.
Dr Ogrih, who spoke at the 2017 commissioning/ presentation of water borehole to rural Women Folks and The Empowerment Initiatives for 50 Rural Women In Need (Widows) into farming business in Delta, held at Uzere, Isoko South Local government area, noted that the borehole was dug for the community because it was discovered that they do not have access to drinkable water in the area.
She said, “God loves women in this world. We are here to take care of the widows. We discovered that there is no water and no light. We wanted to put the borehole in the market square but they told us that one particular area of the community needs the water most.
“This water project is for all the communities. We dedicate, Commission and handover to you so that you may start using it from now on.”
Dr Ogrih also noted that the Foundation in the past ten years has engaged itself in empowering children, widows and the elderly in the society.
She said that, “Our vision is to make a positive difference in the lives of people within and outside our community. We have over the years offered support to those in need in form of scholarships, free school supplies, empowerment for women and children, skill acquisition workshop and donations. We have also published several books for children and adults as well as a Non-denominational Inspirational Magazine ( SEE Magazine) as a way of further reaching out with words of hope and encouragement to people.”
She appealed to other widows who were not accommodated in this phase of the empowerment project to be patient with the Foundation adding that it will get to their turn very soon.
Dr Ogrih also called on other well meaning Nigerian both home and abroad to go back to their various communities and give back to their communities.
She disclosed that the Foundation has its branches all over the world noting that their vision and aim is to look out for people, especially the less privileged and provide them with succour.
“The Empowerment of women in need have recently taken the center stage of our short term goals”, she said.
