As 2015 general elections draws closer, the Delta State Deputy Governor, Prof Amos Agbe Utuama, SAN has reiterated the need for the unity and peaceful harmonious coexistence among Nigerians.
He said the country’s national aspirations can only be realized through harmonious coexistence and unity in the country.
Prof Utuama in a new year message to Deltans and Nigerians in a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Augustine Avwode, emphasized that 2015 is a crucial year for the country because it is an electioneering year.
He, therefore, charged Nigerians to conduct themselves peacefully as they go about their constitutional duties and ensure a free and fair election that will ensure the continuous unity of Nigeria.
“We are grateful to God for making it possible for all of us to witness this New Year, 2015. It is an important one for this country because it is an election year. We are going to elect people into various offices to lead and direct the affairs of this country for the next four years. As a result of this, I want to advise all Nigerians to please seek and ensure that there is peace wherever they are and whatever we do. It is only when there is peace that we can hold successful elections in line with democratic ethos,” the statement read.
The statement added: “Besides, I wish to also advise Nigerians to maintain the bond of unity in the country. Once there is peace and unity in the country, whatever aspirations any individual has can be realized. But without these two things, it becomes difficult to make progress as individuals and as a nation.”
