The Chairman of Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State, Hon. Emmanuel Egbabor has recently inaugurated taskforce committee to stem clashes between farmers and herdsmen within the local government.

The committee which has membership drawn from the security agencies, traditional rulers, clergies, Muslim community and locals, was inaugurated at the Chairman’s office in Isoko North local government area of Delta State.

Speaking at the inauguration, Hon Egbabor who is also the chairman of the committee, noted that, the constitution of the committee was in line with the resolutions reached during a security meeting with the governor of Delta state, Sen. Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, that such committee be constituted across all the local governments in the state to foster harmonious relationship between herdsmen and farmers in the state.

He emphasized on the need for peaceful coexistence among farmers and herders with a message of mutual understanding, positing that, “herders should ensure that their cattle do not graze on farm produce and farmers should also not kill their cattle.

“We must warn our people against the issue of rustling. Only this kind of mutual understanding will create a peaceful and harmonious coexistence.”

Speaking on behalf of members of the committee, the Ovie of Ozoro Kingdom, HRM (Barr) Uvietobore Anthony Ogbogbo, commended the Chairman for inaugurating the Committee adding that, the Committee will work towards registering all cattle rearers in the area so that farmers and herdsmen will have respect for each other, work and live harmoniously.
