Edo2024: Police Arrest Thugs in Election-Related Raids, Seize Firearms

In a significant development aimed at preventing electoral violence in Edo State, the Nigeria Police Force has arrested two political thugs, Edwin Obanor, 43, and Audu Tajudeen, 41, both identified as members of the PDP from Igara Akoko.

Acting on intelligence regarding plans to disrupt the upcoming elections, police operatives apprehended Obanor, a known armed group leader, in Oredo Ward 4 around 9 PM. Tajudeen was captured in Igara Akoko on the eve of the election.

According to Force Public Relations Officer Adejobi Olumuyiwa, a search of Obanor revealed three cut-to-size locally fabricated pistols, while Tajudeen was found in possession of a locally made gun.

These arrests highlight the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to ensuring a peaceful electoral process. The police emphasized that they, along with other security agencies, will not tolerate any form of violence during the elections.

Both suspects are currently in custody and will face legal consequences.

The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to local authorities or through their designated help lines.

“The police reassures the public of its dedication to protecting lives and property and, therefore, urges citizens to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or via our published help lines,” the statement noted.
