By Tejiri Ebikeme
The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has approved the new Oil and Gas (Offshore) Safety training centre of Lym Consults in the oil-rich Delta state.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Lym Consults, Mr. Larry Otu, breaking the cheering news in a press statement personally signed by him, described the approval by the DPR as a welcome development in the oil and gas industry.
He disclosed in the statemtn that official training would commence on Monday September 7, 2015, saying that: “I humbly urge you to conduct your next HUET and SAS training and certification at Lyn Consults.”
“On behalf of Lym Consults, I am extremely excited to announce that our new Oil and Gas (Offshore) Safety Training Centre, located at Km 10 Sapele-Warri Express Way, Otomewo Community, near Warri, Delta State, has been approved by the Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) to conduct Oil and Gas (Offshore) safety trainings.
“With this approval, Lym Consults is now licensed to train and certify personnel working for all International Oil Companies (IOCs) working in Nigeria, and Contractors servicing the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry. This approval covers Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET) & Survival at Sea (SAS),” Mr. Otu noted.
He added that, “with the over Fifty Thousand Employees in the Industry, this Centre is positioned to develop the competence level of the Nigerian workforce.”
“While I am very excited about this milestone achieved, I am more excited knowing that we have installed the safest and best HUET simulator in the World; manufactured, installed and commissioned by Survival Systems Limited, Canada.
“Considering the risk in Offshore trainings, our EP Risk Management team has further developed an ‘Operations Safety Case’ for this Centre. This means, we have identified all Major Accidents Hazards (MAHs) associated with Offshore Trainings, and have subjected the MAHs to detailed analysis. We have put effective Controls/Barriers and Recovery Preparedness Measures in place, and have demonstrated ALARP. We believe that this is the first Training Centre in the Country with an approved Operations Safety Case,” he added.
