Delta: Group Solicits Support For Oboro’s Return to Reps
By Omos Oyinbode, Asaba
A group under the aegis of Delta Democratic Alliance (DDA) has thrown its support behind the candidature of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Uwvie, Okpe/Sapele Federal Constituency, Hon. Evelyn Oboro, for re-election to the House of Representatives in the March 28 general elections.
Rising from a crucial meeting held at Sapele, Delta State, the group led by Mrs. Betty Nikoro, vowed to resist any attempt at impeding the smooth re-election of Hon. Oboro, noting that none of her challengers has the courage and the zeal to represent the people better than Oboro.
Nikoro said the group had deployed both human and material resources
enough to dwarf the assumed popularity of her opponents at the polls, adding that the position of the group was informed by the achievements recorded by the lawmaker in the hallowed chambers of the National Assembly.
The Urhobo-born group leader argued that the people of the area had tried one of her opponents in the past but met their waterloo in what she described as gross misrepresentation of the federal constituency by the then lawmaker whom she accused of abandoning the needs of his constituency for personal aggrandisement and selfish interests.
According to DDA, Hon. Oboro superseded her campaign promises within two years of representation, noting that her popularity was felt most in her empowerment drive which she said was visible in the socio-economic life of her constituents, a feat she stated no one had ever achieved since the advent of representative democracy in the country.
The grassroot mobilisers, DDA further stressed the need to sustain the developmental drive of the lawmaker for the betterment of the masses of Urhobo nation, stating that she had brought the beauties of democracies to bear in the constituency.
According to her, Oboro facilitated the employment of youths in both the state and federal civil service apart from exuding her developmental prowess in her famous bottom-top approach which ensured that the youths in her constituency are meaningfully engaged in a new lease of life.
“For us in DDA, it is either Hon. Evelyn Oboro, or nobody. What this means is that we have deployed enough human and material resources to ensure that come election day this Jewel of Uwvie is declared winner and not a narrow win but a landslide.
“As far as we are concerned, we are campaigning for her in the rain and in the sun for incontestable victory. We would organise rallies, engage in door-to-door enlightenment campaigns to ensure she returns to the lower chambers. Needless to look in the direction of politicians whose history in politics is that of perpetual failure. When given another chance, we are sure that Oboro would place her constituency in its pride of place”, the group stated.
