Warri South LG chairman hails FG’s efforts in strengthening LGAs in Nigeria
Dr Michael Tidi, Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, has commended the Federal Government’s effort in trying to strengthen the third tie of government in the country.
Tidi made this commendation on Friday when he hosted Senator George Akume, Minister of Special Duties and Inter Governmental Affairs, at the Warri South Council Secretariat, Warri, Delta.
The Minister was at the council area as part of his nationwide on the spot assessment of all the local government councils in the country with a view to strengthening the them.
Tidi said he was excited that the Federal Government under the Ministry of Special Duties and Inter Governmental Affairs under Senator George Akume, has thought it wise to embarked on an on-the-spot assessment of all the Local Government Areas in the country.
While lauding the peer review, Tidi urged the ministry to look at perculiar nature of some local government area in the country as they carry out the peer review.
Tidi who reeled out some of his achievements in office for over three years, said Warri South Council was taking sanitization of the council to another level.
He said as a council, they are trying to change the narrative of Warri as against the negative narrative been sent to the world by comedians.
He said since he assumed office the security of Warri South council area was among his top priority apart from sanitation.
He noted that in other for the council to bring back the glory of Warri back to it’s former glory, he has been able to organize the first and second Warri Economic Summit which has helped in boosting the economy of the council area.
He said, “The First and Second Warri Economic Summit was part of the desire to reclaim Warri. As I speak with you, we have a template of the kind of development we want in Warri.
“At both economic summits, we were able to bring in all the captains of industries here to chat the course of Warri. That is the message we sold out to the world. With the summit we were been able to remove that wrong impression that people had about Warri which the comedians helped to spread.
“The issue of youth restiveness have also been addressed because we have a chairman who is a youth and who relates to the youths in the council and is accessible to all.”
Earlier, Engr Kayode Adegbayo, who represented Senator George Akume, Minister of Special Duties and Inter Governmental Affairs, said they were at the council to access the state of the council so as to find ways to strengthen the local government system in Nigeria.
The minister lamented that they decided to embark on assessment of the council areas in the country because some local government areas in the country do not function properly.
He commended Delta State for having a well organized local government system that had been able to reach people in the grassroots.
The Minister noted that from all the local government council he had visited so far, Delta State remains the best.
After the meeting at the Secretariat the Minister and his entourage were taken round the council to assess some of the people oriented projects embarked upon by the Dr Michael Tidi led administration.
