Delta: Any contrasting voices outside Okpe Union are decedents,Prof. Idolor declares
The President -General of the Interim National Executive Committee of the Okpe Union, Prof. Emurobome.G. Idolor said any contrasting voices outside the Okpe Union are decedents poised to factionalized the Union as well as paint Okpe Kingdom in bad light.
Prof. Idolor made the assertion during an address he presented at the Delegate Conference of the Okpe Union ,Worldwide.
The event held at Orerokpe, the ancestral home of the Okpe people of Delta Central Senatorial District.
“I guess they’re kicking their feet against a stone” he said.
Prof. Idolor said the Interim National Executive of the Okpe Union have achieved so much in line with the nine terms of reference establishing same so that by 2022, the Interim National Executive Committee shall be conducting elections for those who will continue with the administration of the Union.
Prof. Idolor thanked the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom,HRM. (Maj.Gen.) Felix Mujakperuo Rtd, Orhue I for his foresight and concern for the existence of the Union by appointing a 9-member Executive Committee to reorganize the leadership of the body.
According to him,”It must be reiterated that the Okpe Union was not dissolved and therefore, all branches are functioning to full capacity.
“Only the leadership was dissolved due to observed fracas in the ranks of it’s officers which was not healthy for the roles the Union is expected to perform.
“On behalf of the membership of the Interim Executive Committee, I say thank you for the opportunity to serve the Okpe Nation in our various responsibilities. We must also acknowledge the assistance of the Udogun-Okpe in terms of courage, suggestions and finances to facilitate our activities and achieve the goals of the Committee.”
In an address,the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori urged the Okpe Union and Okpe people to maintain sustainable peace and attract development to Okpe land.
“In any case, this is what we are known for. We are peace loving people,let us not depart from this Noble virtue of ours, no matter the challenges confronting us.
The member representing the people of Sapele/Okpe&Uvwie Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Efe Afe who was represented by Chief Isaacs Itebu also called on the Okpe to be United so as to achieve their aims and aspirations with a view to attract development to their land.
The Orodje of Okpe Kingdom,HRM.(Maj.Gen.) Felix Mujakperuo Rtd, Orhue I in a remark at the delegate conference also noted that there is no factions in the Okpe Union,the umbrella body of the Okpe people.
The monarch stressed that what exists is a decedent group causing trouble within the Union.
He however said he will accept as “prodigal sons” decedents who are causing trouble within the Union if they come back.
“I don’t curse Okpe people. I pray for them. Anytime they come back I will accept them as prodigal sons.”
He noted that the Okpe Union has come to stay just as he appreciated the Interim National Committee for accepting the challenges and working for the success of the Union.
