A political pressure group in Warri South Local Government area of Delta State under the aegis of Unity for Change has called on Hon. Sunday Demi-Ejegi to run for the Warri South Constituency 1 seat in the Delta State House of Assembly in the 2015 general elections under the All Progresssives Congress (APC).

Hon. Sunday Demi-Ejegi

The group made this call in a statement signed by Comrade Jones Eyione, Hon. Sadiq Oniyesaneyene and Comrade Eyewuoma, President, Secretary and Publicity Secretary respectively and made available to our correspondent, recently.

The group stated that their choice of Hon. Deme-Ejegi was borne out of the desire for change in leadership, adding that he is a God fearing person.

According to the statement; “We have seen the need for a desired change in leadership and we have no doubt in Hon. Demi-Ejegi Sunday as the APC rightful candidate for this job. You may wish to contest and we are strongly behind you. Do not disappoint the good people of Warri South as your refusal to run for this position will bring us back to colonial era or medieval age.”

The group further stated that the call was in line with the injustice and neglect done to the people and area of the constituency over the years and the desire to restore dignity and glory of the Itsekiri heritage and culture.

“Therefore, Warri South and members of Unity for Change have taken our destiny in our hands in all ramifications to resist any interference from outside our constituency to impose candidates on us. We are also calling on our Baba, His Royal Highness, Ogiame Atuwatse II, the Olu of Warri Kingdom, all Council of elders and chiefs to assist the good people of Iwere Land to achieve this noble task,” the group stated.

“Unity for Change is confident with Hon. Demi-Ejegi Sunday. We affirm he is a God fearing person due to his past record. He is a man of honesty, principled and has good human relationship with the communities. He intends to be their mouth pieace on the floor of the Delta State House of Assembly,” the group added.

The group also advised the good people of Warri South to follow up with the ongoing registration/collection of permanent voter’s cards exercise by collecting their original voter’s card, saying it was the only instrument that will free them from the long neglect and underdevelopment in the constituency.

In a related development, Hon. Demi-Ejegi has promised to give his people adequate representation, stressing that it was time to redirect the ship of his constituency in particular and Delta State in general.

Hon. Demi-Ejegi who spoke to journalists at a meeting of the APC organized by Delta Progressive Change Forum (DPCF), a political group under the platform of APC, said he was ready to represent his people because Delta State was dying and that it was time for the people to take their destinies into their hands.

He said the reason why he wants to represent his people in the State House of Assembly was because those that have been representing his people have over the years, neglected the people and are pursuing their personal agenda to the detriment of the people.

Demi-Ejegi said if he clinches the ticket he is going to run a dynamic representation where the people’s wishes and aspirations would be paramount, noting that he is going to have constituency offices in all the six wards in the constituency.

He said; “I have found out that over the years, the true purpose of our people having representatives is not been met, especially in my own constituency (constituency 1). What we see and what we have been used to is, you elect people to represent the people but by the time they get there, they end up representing themselves. You no longer hear the voice of the people but the voice of their representatives. They will no longer carry the people along. They will be interested only in what they wants.”

The APC member called on his people to take advantage of the ongoing voter’s registration/collection exercise and try and get their permanent voter’s cards that they will use to make the desired change they have been clamouring for.

He lamented that despite the huge amount of oil been extracted from Warri South Constituency, there are no meaningful development in the area to show for it.

He said he is confident that he was going to have the backing of his people because he had been a grassroots man, noting that politics was about values and not about money.

Earlier, Alhaji Sadiq Oniyesaneyene, facilitator of the meeting, said the purpose of the meeting was for APC members to sit down and brainstorm on the way forward for the party in the state and also how to support credible aspirants for the forthcoming local government elections and 2015 general elections.
