As part of activities to mark her birthday, wife of the Delta State governor, Dame Edith Okowa has footed the fine of seven convicted inmates in Sapele Prison.

At the ceremony which was held at Sapele Prison, Sapele Local Government, the Dame Okowa who was represented by Evang. Mrs. Tase Odibo advised inmates to make Jesus Christ the centre of their lives encouraging them that there is hope for them.

Speaking on the topic, “Whose voice are you hearing?” the wife of the governor admonished inmates to listen only to the voice of Jesus Christ ignoring every other voice which discourages them from following the ways of God.

She also advised the inmates to cultivate the habit of love and forgiveness reminding them of the reality of heaven and hell.

In his keynote address, the Deputy Controller in charge of Sapele Prison, Valentine Nwosu, highlighted the good works of Dame Okowa in Sapele Prison including supply of essential drugs, payment of fines for convicted inmates, commissioning of borehole in the prison yard as well as distribution of gift items and bibles to inmates.

Nwosu also seized the opportunity to appreciate well meaning Nigerians who have impacted the lives of prison inmates through their visits and programme sponsorship.

He however called on imminent personalities to emulate Dame Okowa and other good spirited people who choose to celebrate their special days with the prison inmates.

Gift items including mattresses, slippers, foods and drinks were presented to the prison.

Dame Okowa also marked her birthday in some selected prisons across the state.
