UPU to honour Otuama, Ibru, Okagbare, Dara others as Urhobo patriots

Former Deputy Governor of Delta State, Professor Amos Utuamah, former Delta State Governor, Chief Felix Ibru, ace Nigerian sprinter, Blessing Okagbare and Urhobo’s representative at the 2015 national conference, Professor G G Dara are among those that would be honoured with the title: Urhobo Patriot (UP) by the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) , the apex social- cultural group in Urhoboland.
The President General worldwide, of the UPU, Chief Engr. Joe Omene JP told newsmen that this year’s Urhobo National Day /Carnival will hold on Saturday, December 5 at the Urhobo Ultra Modern Cultural Centre in Uwviamughe, Agbara Delta State adding that a selected number of Urhobo sons and daughters who have carved niches for themselves in history and made Urhobo proud will be honoured as Urhobo patriots which automatically qualify them to become members of the council of representatives of the apex Urhobo body.
Chief Omene who acknowledged that the UPU made certain mistakes during the electioneering period said the leadership is already taking steps to develop and re-strategize the body.
He therefore enjoined all Urhobo sons and daughters as well as Urhobo well wishers to come enmasse to celebrate the auspicious event which will feature lectures, solidarity messages, cultural displays and awards.
Other recipients of Urhobo extract to be awarded include Chief Matthew Edevbie, Omoni Oboli, Chief Okpokpo; ace comedians, Gordons and Ali Baba amongst others.
Posthumous award will also presented to late Senator Pius Ewerido, late Kefe Branama and late Chief Eshalomi.
The theme of this year’s Urhobo Day celebration is: The labour of our heroes past.
