The people of Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State were agog as Orerokpe the Council headquarters literally stood still, recently, when the member representing the area in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Chief Sheriff Oborevwori, stormed the town to give account of his stewardship to his constituents.

The town hall meeting/constituency briefing, which was held at the Orerokpe Multi-purpose hall, was attended by the State Chairman of PDP, Barr. Kingsley Esiso, political leaders and people across the political divide.

For Chief Oborevwori, who has been in active politics for over a decade,  accountability and transparency are major components of political representation hence the meeting to tell his people what he has done in the last one year since he assumed office.

He informed the excited constituents that the House passed a total of fourteen (14) Bills while some have been assented to, others are at the stage of assent. He said the bills will impact positively on Deltans when they become operational.

There were smiles of satisfaction on the faces of the constituents as Oborevwori was rendering his stewardship. The people, who were in joyous mood, were entertained with Okpe native music at the ceremony, which kicked off at 1:30pm.

The lawmaker, who was clad in a flowing agbada made of PDP customized cloth with the picture of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and himself engraved on it, said:“It is also worthy of mention that on the 16th of February, 2016, I moved a motion on a matter of urgent public importance on the deplorable state of failed portions of Warri/Sapele Expressway between Okwijorogu and Okuovo in Okpe Local Government Area.

“The motion requested the honourable House to urge the Federal Ministry of Works, Power and Housing to direct FERMA to as a matter of urgency repair those failed portions of the road. “The motion was later amended with an appeal to the State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, to intervene and save Deltans and Nigerians from the untold hardship and suffering experienced on that road. The rest is now history.

“My Beloved people of Okpe state constituency, I never forget the fact that as a representative, while in the House, it is my responsibility to attract meaningful development to our constituency.

“It is no longer news that Nigeria is in economic recession due to low crude production quantum. Oil production has dropped from 2.3mbpd to between 1.1mpd-1.3mpd.

“Despite the present economic challenges, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa in synergy with the state legislature, is committed to providing good governance and prosperity for all Deltans through SMART Agenda.

In a bid to provide a better environment for our people, I wrote a letter dated 10th of December, 2015 to the Direct Labour Agency, DLA, requesting for urgent maintenance work on Ugolo/Orerokpe road, Oha/Orerokpe road, Adagbrasa road, Okuovo/Mereje Road and Onyeke/Okufuoma road.

“But, as a result of paucity of funds, DLA was only able to work on Oha/Ororekpe road for now, which has reduced the menace of armed robbery, kidnapping and road accidents on that particular road.

“Within one year of his administration, Senator ifeanyi Okowa has demonstrated an uncommon love for our people by giving the approval for the award of the construction of Onomigbo street, Ororekpe, completed and commissioned; construction of Ejinyere/Orodje street, Ororekpe, completed and commissioned. Rehabilitation of Warri/Sapele Expressway at CH 6 + 500 and CH1+100 by Okuijorogu and Okuovo, completed;  construction of modern open and lock-up shops at Orerokpe market, 80 per cent completed; construction of Okuovo/Kpokpogri/Iriama junction road, ongoing; construction of Arhagba/Okobia/Okuabode road, phase 1 and resurfacing of 11-kilometre Jeddo/Omadino road, completed and commissioned.”

“Through our consistent synergy and engagement with other Agencies, Delta State Oil producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) and State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) have awarded and completed some projects across the four (4) political zones of Okpe, namely, Mereje, Ugolo, Ezezi and Aghalokpe zones.”

While thanking the people of Okpe State constituency for giving him their mandate and support, he promised to continually strive to attract dividends of democracy to his constituency in particular, the Okpe nation and Delta State at large through robust and effective representation.

Oborevwori continued: “I will continue to support government efforts aimed at guaranteeing peace, security and welfare of all Deltans through effective legislation and oversight. I will strive to finish the work I have started. I will welcome ideas that will assist me in improving the quality of life of our people.”

Those who spoke at the occasion including Chief Tom Amioku, Chief Joseph Otirhue, Chief Lizzy Obukene, Chief J.I. Asini, Hon. Prince Godwin Ejiyere, Chief Daniel Okoro, Chief Efe Uko and Mr Ramson Ikweki all expressed satisfaction with Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for their laudable projects executed in the LGA in the past one year.
