NUJ Condemns Poor Service Delivery By BEDC In Warri
By Francis Sadhere
The Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Warri Correspondents Chapel has condemned in its strongest terms the poor service delivery by the Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC to her customers in Warri and its environs.
The Union in a statement signed by its Chairman, Comrade Akpokona Omafuaire and Secretary, Comrade Joe Ogbodu said that BEDC has failed woefully in its responsibility of distributing electricity as generated to residents of Warri and its environs.
The Union faults BEDC’s claims that it’s generator to power machine used to print prepaid meters recharge cards were bad hence their inability to service its customers who had thronged their offices for days without being able to get recharge saying that it is a shame that a company like BEDC cannot power generators to print out prepaid recharge cards to users.
The development, which the Union said had denied willing buyers the opportunity to recharge their meters for weeks has show the inefficiency of BEDC as a power distribution company.
The press statement reads in part, “Many residents of Warri and its environs had complained to us about lack of electricity in the metropolis. Power supply in the oil city is near zero and bad enough BEDC is doing nothing about this anomaly. Residents hardly see light and to make matter worse the failure of BEDC to power her generator have deny people the opportunity to recharge their prepaid meters.
“We, as a Union have become inundated with poor service delivery of BEDC and we make bold to say that it is unacceptable to us for the company to keep treating their customers so poorly. As watchdog of the society, we cannot continue to watch while BEDC poorly treat electricity consumers in our area of operations with constant power outages and huge estimated bills.”
