Campaign against drug and substance abuse launches in Delta State

…commends Governor Oborevwori On Anti- Drug Campaign

In a proactive initiative against drug abuse, Friends Against Drug Abuse Foundation (FADA) launched a spirited campaign aimed at raising awareness about the detrimental effects of drug and substance abuse.

The campaign was on Monday, 3rd February, 2025 spearheaded by the Non Governmental Organization (NGO) and lauded the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Dr. Sheriff F.O. Oborevwori for directing that the campaign should be extended to Primary Schools in the State.

Speaking to newsmen in Asaba, Comrade Chief Ejiroghene Erifevieme on behalf of the Foundation commended the Delta State Governor on the Anti- Drug Campaign, saying it was a boost to life saving.

The theme of the event is “No Drugs, No Healthy Living For A Greater Future,” organized by Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe Esq, Director General, Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, who did a great job by bringing all relevant stakeholders under one roof to discuss ideas on the prevailing effect and dangers of drug abuse.

He stated that the program is to create awareness about the dangers of drug abuse among young people, especially those in Secondary and Higher Schools.

“Governor Oborevwori should be commended for considering the introduction of drug test machine and compulsory drug test for all new students in the Secondary and Tertiary Institutions in Delta State,” he added.

He specifically appreciated the Warri NPA – NDLEA Commander, Ann Okoebor for the continuous partnership we have been enjoying with the Delta Port Command.

Erifevieme noted that FADA Foundation has long been in the forefront of the campaign against drugs abuse and substance taking in the state through various visits to secondary schools, communities and holding of seminars.

The key note address, he said was taken by the Delta Commander of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Abubaker Wada, a lawyer on the dangers of Drug Abuse.

The ceremony was flagged off by the Governor ably represented by the Honourable Commissioner in the Ministry of Health; Ministry of Primary Education; Speaker of the State House of Assembly ably represented by the Majority Leader and other Assembly Members includes Engr Sir Emmanuel Sinebe.

The program was well attended by top government functionaries, politicians, security agencies, FRSC officials, police and NDLEA who were the host partners.

The high point of the event was the unveiling of a drug device capable of directing drugs consumed into the body up to 30days as students that participated asked brilliant questions on the consequences of taking hard drugs.
