BAYELSA State Special Security Task Force codenamed ‘Operation Doo Akpor’ has arrested members of a two-man gang over an attack on a 26-year-old corps member, Miss Folakemi Akinbode.

Akinbode’s limb, according to media reports, was chopped-off after being attacked by the suspected hoodlums on Tuesday, while returning from her place of primary assignment.

The hoodlums, earlier on that fateful day, under pretence, went to the Niger Delta Teaching Hospital, Okolobiri to donate blood.

However, after being attended to by their victim, they were paid an undisclosed amount by the hospital management through Akinbode.

After effecting the payment, the hoodlums (not cultists as reported), waylaid the corps member and attacked her with machete and cudgels.

Disturbed by the incident, the State Special Security Task Force swung into action and its efforts paid-off, with the arrest of the perpetrators, Weri Malua and Ebi West Jato.

Disclosing this to newsmen, the Special Adviser to the governor on security matters, Colonel Bernard Kenebai (rtd), said the security operatives acted on a tip-off which led to the arrest of Malua and Jato.

According to him, the Special Task Force, around 1.30p.m. received a call at the State Government’s Security Coordination Centre, which eventually led to the arrest of the duo in Gbarain, Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

“Members of our team raided the area and arrested them with machete and two handsets (Blackberry and Nokia) belonging to the corps member.

Malua and Jato had since been handed over to the police for further interrogation, while the police is on the trail of other suspects.
