Former Delta State Education Commissioner and Proprietress, Chinkelly Group of Schools, Dr. (Mrs.) Veronica Ogbuagu, has said the emergence of All Progressive Congress party, APC, will promote radical social economic and political reformation in the country.
Speaking in Warri during the First General Meeting of APC, Delta State Chapter, held at Urhobo College, Dr. Ogbuagu said politicians today regard their interest as more important than the interest of the society, emphasizing that Nigerians want to move forward and the vehicle for that swift movement was the newly formed All Progressive Congress.
She said; “Our democracy is weak, and it has given birth to numerous evils in Nigeria. The real political party is greed. And their religion is corruption. They do not seem to understand the importance of the community as a whole, and forgetting that what affects one person affects us all.”
While lamenting that Nigeria proclaims democracy but does not practice it, Dr. Ogbuagu added that the purpose of the meeting was to properly fashion out ways by which they could properly position the emerging party in Delta State.
Dr. Ogbuagu who is a member of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) said; “Permit me to say that, we also need a change in Delta State. And that change will come from the women. The women are working very hard to take the state in 2015. We would offer Delta people better governance. At the appointed time, they will un-veil their plans.”
Speaking further, she said; “We are here to x-ray the present political situation in the state as it affects our new party APC. While that is on, we believe that it is proper to think and fashion out ways by which we could properly position the emerging party in the state.”
“At the moment a lot of people have already started politicking ahead of 2015. We must be very careful. Some may mean well for the state, some very desperate and power drunk, while others may have been planted to divide the Urhobo votes come 2015. All I can say is that, this is another opportunity for you to make wise choice. Vote for people or persons that can perform and remember, every person is change agent. Change is too important to leave to the experts,” she added.
According to her, the party’s priority programmes would include: agricultural development, job creation, free education, affordable health care, infrastructural development, adequate power supply, eradication of poverty and corruption, rapid technological advancement and industrialization.
Another facilitator, Chief Abel Edijala in his contribution promised other members of the party that the party is on the right part to taking Delta state to the next level, saying it is high time the people of the state started enjoying the dividends of democracy.
Also speaking at the first APC general meeting, Mr. Uloho Akpowere blamed the present government for the increase in the number of industries and companies moving out of the state, saying that Delta State is a state of great opportunities.
The meeting was attended by a large number of ACN faithful who were eager to contribute their own quota to the new party.
