Tidi stresses need for preventive measures as fire destroys shops in Warri
Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area in Delta state, Dr. Michael E. Tidi, has called on traders behind Dore (Main) Market, Warri to install fire extinguishers and adopt other preventive measures to avert the recurrence of fire outbreaks within the axis.
Dr. Tidi, handed down the charge Friday April 7 through the Secretary to Warri South Local Government, Mr. Joseph Oribioye, when officials of Warri South Local Government Council visited the scene of inferno that destroyed no fewer than 9 shops last night.
Leadership of the traders’ union and some of the victims, told the Warri South Local Government Council delegation that the fire whose cause could not be ascertained as at the time of this report, started at about 7:30 pm last night, before it was put out around 10:00pm by officials of Delta State Fire Service, with Men of the Nigerian Army, Alele Unit, providing prompt security cover.
Head of the traders’ market management committee, Comrade Godwin Eneghan, who conducted the Warri South Council delegation round the affected shops, appealed to government to come to the aid of the victims, promising to address the necessity of installing fire extinguishers at the market.
