Nigerians have be warned to refrain from the habit of illegally  bypassing their meters as anybody caught will be made to face the full wrath of the law, says Mr. Edmond Gbiwen, Corporate Affairs Officer, Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), Warri, Delta State.

Mr. Edmund Gbiwen

Mr. Gbiwen who gave this warning in an interview with our correspondent at his Warri office said BEDC will soon start moving around with security agents to apprehend anybody that is found guilty of bypassing their meters.

He urged the general public to always pay their electricity bills instead of bypassing their meters, noting that that was the only BEDC can serve them better.

Mr. Gbiwen revealed that BEDC is doing everything possible to ensure that they serve its customers better in all areas, calling on the general public to come out of their shelves and go to any of its office to register their complains anytime they feel they are not getting quality services.

He said gone were the days when people felt that BEDC staff will not attend to them anytime they come with their complains, adding their offices are opened to serve the people better.

Speaking on the difficulties experienced by its customers to recharge their prepaid meters in the banks, the Corporate Affairs Manager said BEDC is doing everything possible to ensure that customers do not go through such difficulties to pay their bills.

He assured the general public that BEDC is trying to see how its customers will be able to recharge their prepaid meters through their phones and the internet.

Gbiwen explained that one of the reasons why their staff in the banks seems to be overwhelmed by the crowd who want to pay to recharge their prepaid meters, was because of insufficient equipment available to them.

“The equipment we use are very expensive to get. One of these equipment cost almost million naira or above. So that is why there has always been long queues in the designated banks. Another reason for this is because a lot of people are now buying prepaid meters. People now prefer to use prepaid meters to analog meters because they can control what they use,” Mr. Gbiwen noted.
