Aladja Grammar School Celebrates 50 Years of Excellence

Aladja Grammar School is set to celebrate its Golden Jubilee from September 27th to 29th, 2024, marking 50 years since its founding in 1974.

The event, which was announced by Mr. Andrew Okrakene, President of the Aladja Grammar School Old Students Association during a press briefing held at the premises of Nigeria Union of Journalist, NUJ Warri Correspondent Chapel, will highlight the institution’s legacy as the first secondary school established in the Udu Local Government Area.

He said that the three-day celebration will kick off with an interactive session between alumni and current students, followed by a commemorative road walk.

“Day two will feature a lecture with distinguished speakers, including prominent academics and community leaders, along with a luncheon where awards will be presented and funds raised for school development.

“The celebration will conclude with a thanksgiving service at Holy Trinity African Church, Aladja,” he said.

Okrakene emphasized the importance of giving back to the school, noting that the organizing committee, led by Hon. Chief Dr. Henry Sakpra, aims to raise funds for critical projects such as the fencing of the school premises.

“This celebration is not just a reunion; it represents our commitment to the future of education in our community,” he stated, urging the media to help share the story of the school’s achievements and impact.

“Aladja Grammar School has produced a number of notable alumni, including state governors, federal legislators, and successful entrepreneurs, exemplifying the institution’s role in shaping leaders and innovators over the past five decades.

“As the school prepares for this significant milestone, the alumni community looks forward to reflecting on our shared history and reaffirming their dedication to supporting future generations of students,” Okrakene added.

Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Hon. Chief Dr Henry Sakpra, said that efforts is on to raise funds for critical projects, including the fencing of the school premises.

On the “Milestones and Achievements”, Sakpra said that over the last five decades, Aladja Grammar School has grown from the humble beginning in 1974 to become a leading institution in Udu Local Government Area for being the first Secondary School.

Sakpra also reiterated that,the special guest of honor of the day are, RT. Hon. (elder) Sheriff Oborevwori, Governor of Delta State and RT. Hon. Francis Waive, Honorable member representing Ughelli North, South and Udu Constituency.

“I’m proud to tell you that RT. Hon. (elder) Sheriff Oborevwori and RT. Hon. Francis Waive are products of our dear esteemed institution.”

He said that the event would featured lecture series from distinguished speakers including, Prof. G.G. Darah, Prof. Jomata Igben, Prof. Godfrey Akpojotor and Mr. Egedegbe Edewor who are also products of the school.

“Awards will be given to some old Students who have projected the name of the School on their various endeavors.

“While we celebrate our rich history, this 50th anniversary also serves as a platform to look ahead. Our vision for the future is clear to remain at the forefront of educational excellence and to continue developing well-rounded socially responsible individuals who will shape the future of our society”, he said.

Other personality who where on board are, Mrs Caroline Magege Odogu, Vice president. Bukata Victoria T. The first Head Girl of the College, Comrade Henry Obus, member of the planning committee. Austin Maduku, Dean of college of H.P.M Delta State. Mrs Mabel A. Ewroh, among others.
