By Aghogho Shedrack Okorogri

As part of his yearly tradition to ensure the people of Ughelli North/Ughelli South/Udu Federal Constituency have a joyous New Year celebration, Hon Chief Solomon Ahwinahwi has distributed innumerable bags of rice, cows, rams, chickens and other food items worth millions of naira to his constituents.

The distribution of food items which cuts across party affiliation was given to people across the constituency, irrespective of political or ethnic divide, group or gender.

The Effurun residence of the lawmaker was full to capacity with thousands of his constituents, with each carrying one or two bags of rice with either a chicken or ram to follow.

Shouts of Don Chizo, the pet name of Hon Solomon Ahwinahwi rented the air, even in the absence of the progressive lawmaker.

Hon Ahwinahwi thanked his constituents for their support and prayers in the last one year and urged them to sustain their action.

He pointed out that the gesture was his own way of rewarding his constituents and others for their support and to put smiles on their faces.

He reassured his constituents of sustained focused representation that will attract more dividends of democracy to the area, as he would climb the ladder to become a more recognised cognate member of the House upon his reelection.

The lawmaker reminded them that he is running on the platform of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, whose symbol is a white horse and called on them to vote for him.

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke thanked Hon Ahwinahwi for the gesture and promised to vote for him.

Mr Peter Ogagaoghene, from Ubogo, who got a bag of rice and one giant chicken, said he is not a member of any political party but with his PVC, he will surely cast his vote for Hon Ahwinahwi, who he described as the most “unassuming candidate among the lot”.

Many women, youths and groups who benefitted from the largesse thanked Hon Ahwinahwi for the gesture and prayed God to bless him and grant him success at the polls come 2019.
