The newly sworn-in Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ughelli Correspondents Chapel, Comrade Prince (Dr.) Matthias Ogbagah, has pledged to strengthen the chapel’s longstanding culture of peace, unity, and professionalism.
Ogbagah, who gave the assurance during his inaugural speech on Friday, expressed deep gratitude to members of the chapel for the confidence reposed in him, noting that his victory was a collective one.
With humility, the new chairman thanked colleagues, friends, and partners in the media for their support, describing the day as one the chapel had eagerly anticipated.
He said the Ughelli Correspondents Chapel had earned a reputation as one of the most peaceful and progressive chapels in Delta State, adding that his administration would work harder to sustain and improve that legacy.
“My leadership will be open, inclusive, and receptive. We shall look at every suggestion together as a family and make decisions that reflect the collective good of our union,” he assured.
Ogbagah cautioned against internal conflict, stressing that no institution grows in an atmosphere of division. He urged members to bring forward ideas, innovations, and suggestions that would enhance the chapel’s growth, image, and effectiveness.
He noted that the chapel had come a long way and must not return to difficult moments of the past but instead strive forward with renewed commitment to professionalism and unity.
“My victory today is not for me alone; it is for every one of us. If we walk together and reason together, we will elevate this chapel to greater heights where others will look at us and say, ‘Yes, they are the standard,’” he said.
Ogbagah reaffirmed his commitment to building a stronger union, declaring that together, the chapel would grow and succeed.
The ceremony attracted journalists, stakeholders, and well-wishers who described his emergence as a step toward further stability and development of the chapel.
