Cancelling of Maritime Varsity in bad taste —Reyenieju
By Our Correspondent
IJAW and Itsekiri youths of Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State have been called upon to remain peaceful as the reported cancelling of the Maritime University, Okerenkoko, by the Minister of Transport, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, does not possess the force of finality.
Speaking to a youth group who paid him a courtesy call in Warri, Delta State, member of House of Representatives, Mr. Daniel Reyenieju, described the statement credited to Ameachi that the Maritime University, Okerenkoko, had been cancelled as “provocative, vexing, insensitive, and consequently unacceptable.”
He assured the youth group that the House of Representatives will not allow such “brazen arbitrariness without subjecting same to parliamentary scrutiny,” wondering why the said university which is just one of those established by the Goodluck Jonathan administration “is being singled out for cancellation.”
“The House of Representatives has never shied away from espousing the principle of justice, more so in this instant case where huge sums of money had already been invested, Governing Council already constituted and Vice-Chancellor for the university appointed.”
Earlier in his address, the leader of the youth group, Ijaw/Itsekiri Youths Alliance, appealed to the lawmaker to do all within his power to ensure that the reported action of the present federal administration was reverted to serve the course of justice.
