Southern Delta University Ozoro in Delta State opens a new vista in its professional administrative development by training and inducting 120 staff into the Association of Nigerian University Professional Administrators (ANUPA).
The event featured a one-day professional training, induction ceremony and interactive session involving national executive of ANUPA, SDU Management and university administrators.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Victor Ben, National President, Association of Nigerian University Professional Administrators (ANUPA) said that the association was committed to continuous training, professional development, mentorship and ethical standards among university administrators.
Dr. Bem described the inauguration of the SDU Chapter as an opportunity to “plant a seed that will germinate and expand and achieve the desired results,” noting that professionally trained administrators are essential to effective university management.
In his comments, Prof. Sunny Awhefeada, Vice-Chancellor, Southern Delta University said that the inauguration of ANUPA in the University is a significant milestone in University’s development, he stressed that administrators are the institutional memory of the university responsible for preserving records, processes and institutional traditions.
The Vice Chancellor said that continuous training and innovation were essential as universities navigate an increasingly digital and rapidly changing environment, he assured the Association of the University’s support.
Also speaking, Mrs. Ejiroghene Etibro, Registrar of Southern Delta University described the inauguration as a major step towards building a world-class Registry anchored on professionalism, efficiency, innovation, integrity and excellence.
The Registrar commended the Vice-Chancellor for approving and sponsoring the initiative, noting that the support demonstrates Management’s commitment to human-capital development.
Mrs. Etobro disclosed that over 120 administrators registered for the programme and ultimately inducted into ANUPA, she described the strong participation as evidence of staff commitment to professional growth.
She said that the inauguration was not a one-off event, but the beginning of a series of training and capacity-building programmes designed to develop staff across the various cadres of the Registry.
Mrs. Etobro also expressed the hope that the University would become a training ground for future Registrars and senior university administrators, where professionals would be nurtured, mentored and prepared for greater responsibilities.
According to Mrs. Etobro, “we are not merely inaugurating an Association, we are inaugurating a culture of continuous professional development.”
The event also featured the presentation of traditional hospitality items to the visiting ANUPA National Executive, as well as goodwill messages and a ceremonial toast.
With the inauguration of the chapter and induction of 120 administrators, the University has further strengthened its commitment to professional excellence, institutional capacity building and the development of an administrative system capable of supporting its vision as a modern, efficient and 21st-century university.
