RISING INSECURITY IN OGHARA KINGDOM:
OGHARA STUDY GROUP CALLS FOR IMMEDIATE GOVERNMENT
INTERVENTION AND COLLECTIVE ACTION
The Oghara Study Group (OSG) expresses its profound grief, outrage, and deep concern over the alarming deterioration of the security situation across Oghara Kingdom. The recent abduction of a husband and wife, the brutal killing of the husband by their kidnappers, and the eventual release of the wife only after a ransom payment have once again exposed the frightening level of insecurity confronting our communities. This heartbreaking tragedy has left families devastated, heightened fear among residents, and underscores the urgent need for decisive government action.
This incident is not isolated.
Oghara Kingdom, once known for its peaceful and hospitable
environment, is increasingly becoming a hotspot for kidnappings, violent attacks, armed robbery, banditry, and senseless killings. The growing wave of criminality has disrupted normal social and economic activities, forcing many residents to live in fear, farmers to abandon their farmlands, businesses to operate under constant threat, and families to limit their movements.

The Oghara Study Group strongly condemns these heinous acts of violence and extends its heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased. We also sympathize with the wife who endured the trauma of abduction and the painful loss of her husband. No family should ever have to
experience such unimaginable cruelty.
We unequivocally condemn the activities of criminal gangs terrorizing our communities. No individual or criminal network, irrespective of origin, ethnicity, religion, or political affiliation, should be allowed to turn Oghara Kingdom into a sanctuary for violent crime. Criminality has no ethnic, religious, or political justification. Those responsible must be identified, arrested,
thoroughly investigated, prosecuted, and made to face the full weight of the law.
We therefore call on the Federal Government of Nigeria, the Delta State Government, the Ethiope West Local Government Council, and all relevant security agencies—including the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Department of State Services, and other intelligence agencies—to urgently deploy additional personnel, intelligence capabilities, surveillance technology, and operational logistics to restore lasting peace and security
across Oghara Kingdom Specifically, we urge the authorities to:
1. Launch sustained security operations to dismantle criminal hideouts and rescue all remaining
kidnap victims.
2. Intensify intelligence gathering and strengthen inter-agency collaboration to identify, arrest, and
dismantle criminal networks operating within and around Oghara Kingdom.
3. Increase security patrols along major roads, rural communities, farmlands, waterways, and other
vulnerable locations.
4. Establish effective rapid-response mechanismsto ensure prompt intervention wheneversecurity
threats arise.
5. Conduct thorough investigations into the recent kidnapping and killing and ensure that every
person connected with the crime is brought to justice.
6. Strengthen community policing and improve collaboration between security agencies and local communities to prevent future attacks.
The Oghara Study Group also appeals to the traditional institution, community leadership, youth organisations, religious bodies, market associations, and civil society organisations to deepen cooperation with security agencies through lawful information sharing, vigilance, and communitybased security initiatives. Security remains a shared responsibility, and every law-abiding resident
has a role to play in protecting our communities.
As we mourn those whose lives have been cut short by this growing wave of insecurity, we call on all sons and daughters of Oghara Kingdom to remain calm, united, and law-abiding. We understand the anger and frustration that many feel. However, these tragic developments must not
become an excuse for mob justice, ethnic profiling, vigilantism, or reprisals against innocent persons. Criminals should be identified and prosecuted based on credible evidence and the rule of law, not on assumptions about ethnicity, nationality, or background.
This is a defining moment for Oghara Kingdom. We cannot remain silent while innocent people are kidnapped, families are forced to pay ransom, and lives are being lost to violent criminals. The protection of lives and property is the primary responsibility of government, and our people
deserve to live without fear.
The Oghara Study Group remains committed to engaging relevant authorities, advocating for stronger security measures, and supporting all lawful efforts aimed at restoring peace, protecting lives and property, and rebuilding public confidence in the security architecture of our kingdom.
Enough is enough. The safety and security of the people of Oghara Kingdom must become an immediate national, state, and local priority. Our people deserve to live, work, farm, and travel in peace. The time for decisive action is now.
God bless Oghara Kingdom.
God bless Delta State.
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
