Tonye Stresses Need For Cordial Relationship Between Communities
DELTA State Commissioner for Special Duties and Project Monitoring, DESOPADEC, Mr. Timi Tonye has stressed the need for a cordial relationship between communities and contractors handling projects in their areas.
The Commissioner stated this when he embarked on another round of projects monitoring in Ndokwa East Local Government Area of the state.
DESOPADEC projects in Ndokwa East Local Government Area inspected by the Commissioner for Special Duties and Projects Monitoring, Mr. Timi Tonye and his team include the renovation of block of 2 classroom at Ogene Primary School, Ashaka; the renovation of a block of six classrooms in same school, though allegedly abandoned renovation of a block of six classrooms in Igbukun Primary School.
Mr. Tonye expressed satisfaction at the quality of job and material used in executing the projects.
On the alleged abandoned renovation project in Ogenen Primary School, the Commissioner said it is not a complete case of abandonment but was occasioned by a bureaucratic challenge that cropped up at the time of execution.
He stated that a recommendation would be made for a new structure in the school because of its population.
At Egwede Community, the Commissioner inspected a completed solar water project with five distribution units within the community.
Mr. Tonye who affirmed that the project was executed to specification urged members of the community to make good use of the project and ensure that it is protected from abuse and vandalism.
Some beneficiaries of the school and water projects say the intervention of the State Government through the DESOPADEC projects has helped to ameliorate their sufferings.
The Commissioner was also at Ibrede Grammar School where it was discovered that a project awarded since 2009 for the renovation of a block of six classrooms has been abandoned.
At Egbedi Primary School One, the water project is said to have been stalled by the death of the contractor handling the project.
While that of a block of six classrooms is occasioned by a rift between the community and the contractor.
According to the President-General of the community, Mr. Finbarrs Onomerike, the block of classrooms the contractor wants to renovate is different from that which the people want.
After a closed door meeting with the community leaders, Mr. Tonye expressed optimism that the contractors will return to site soon and sued for a cordial relationship between communities and contractors.
The on-going inspection and monitoring of projects by the Commissioner for Special Duties and Project Monitoring, DESOPADEC and his team is with a view to ensuring that contracts awarded by DESOPADEC are executed and the benefitting communities enjoy the infrastructural development agenda of the Governor Uduaghan administration.
