…as district 404A1 performs groundbreaking ceremony of eye clinic in Warri

Lion Samuel Ekpuk, Area Leader, Global Action Team, Lions Club International, on Wednesday said the club is committed to delivering quality healthcare services to Nigerians.

Ekpuk said this during the groundbreaking ceremony of Lion Club International, District 404A1 Eye Centre, Warri Central Hospital, Delta State.

He said the club decided to build to eye clinic as part of effort to assist the government in delivering quality healthcare services to the downtrodden in the society.

He noted that before now a lot of the healthcare intervention by the club were carried out outside the country but added that the club has decided to build facilities and manpower in the country.

“We used to take people to Kenya to do high tech cornea engraftment. We used to take people across the country for treatment. We sat down one day and we said we don’t need to do this. Let’s invest in facilities across the country, train people so that when the need arises we can create eye banks to be able to carry out eye engraftment,” said.

He said the eye clinic is the first project ever to be supported by the Lion Club International Foundation in Delta state.

Dr Michael Tidi, Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, commended Lion Club for the project, promising that the council will do all within it’s power to ensure that the project is completed.

Tidi, who was represented by Mr Sunny Bodor, Supervisor Warri South Local Government Area, said the project was inline with his mandate of ensuring that healthcare services is available to all.

“We want to assure you that this project that you have brought to the council, we are going to support you to see that it is completed. We promise you that you will not regret bringing this project to Warri South council area,” Tidi said.

Earlier, Lion Fortune Wagbatsoma, District Governor, District 404A1, said the project when completed will go a long way in meeting the needs of people with vision problem in the state.

“Today is a great day and we thank God for it. This journey started year back and we are happy today that we are commencing fully. We have been regular visitor to the Warri Central Hospital not because we are sick, but because we want to cover gaps for the government, especially in the area of vision.

“It’s not new to us that Central Hospital, Warri have been calling on is for assistant. But by the grace we had the opportunity to do more and we decided to take it a step further by upbraiding and expanding the eye clinic Hospital.

“We swung into action and got the necessary approvals from our international office coupled with our own little contribution and we are able to say today that we are fully ready to commence this great project.

“It’s a project that we know and we trust that it will go a long way in helping humanity, in alleviating the suggesting of our people and improve their vision,” Wagbatsoma said.

She thanked the CMD and staff of the Central Hospital Warri and the management of Delta State Hospital Management Board, the Warri South Local Government Area Chairman for their support so far.

Lion Dr Luis Esenwha, Project Director, Lion Club, promised that the project would be delivered on scheduled.

“Lion Club International is not known to abandon it’s projects. We give our promise and we fulfill it. Wet have our timeline for this project and by the grace of God and the corporation of the contractors involved, we will deliver.

“We will not compromise at well embarked on this project. Standard will be maintained throughout the duration of the project.

“Apart from the structure, we also intend to equip the eye clinic and we will also train stay that will be working in the eye clinic,” he said.
