Effurun
The Delta Central political meeting held at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) Conference Centre, Effurun is generally peaceful and successful.
In a statement issued by Jennifer Adasen Esq. Executive Assistant (Political) to Delta State Governor who was at the Delta Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Stakeholders’ meeting said that the gathering was orderly, well-organized and concluded in an atmosphere of unity, mutual respect and constructive engagement.
She said that the reported case of violence, which has been circulating in social media, took place outside the meeting hall in a drinking arena and has no connection with the purpose and outcome of the Stakeholders’ meeting.
According to her, “the meeting was peaceful, well-organised and concluded successfully in an atmosphere devoid of rancour, no violence, one love understanding, respect for one another and constructive engagement”.
Adasen Esq. condemned what she described as an isolated act of violence, stressing that individual differences should never degenerate into physical confrontation.
She added, “I unequivocally condemn every act of violence, intimidation, barbaric actions and lawlessness, irrespective of those involved”.
The Governor’s aide then called on political leaders, politicians, stakeholders and supporters to uphold the values of peace, civility, tolerance and democratic engagement, she noted that violence has no place in a democratic society and should be condemned in its entirety.
Adasen also appealed to members of the public and political supporters to remain calm, exercise restraint and refrain from actions or statements capable of escalating tensions.
Reaffirming her commitment to peaceful political participation, constructive dialogue and unity, Adasen called on all stakeholders to reject violence in all its forms and work together to promote peace, stability and sustainable development in Delta State.
