Mallam-Obi tasks Isoko undergraduates on peaceful polls

By Harriet Anetor

Undergraduate students in Delta State University, Abraka under the umbrella of Nation Association of Isoko Students, have been enjoined to re-dedicate themselves and join hands with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure peaceful, free and credible general elections in the state.

The Political Adviser to the Delta State Governor, (Delta South) Charles Mallam – Obi, gave this charge recently when he paid a courtesy visit to the members of the association.

He decried the use of students and youth’s as thugs by never-do-well politicians. He said the time has come for the students to reject such deadly offers whose sole aim is to rob the electorates of their choice candidate.

The political adviser, accompanied by Akpodhoma mike, the Press Secretary to the Deputy Majority Leader House of Representative, Hon. Leo Okuweh Ogor and others tasked the students, especially the NAIS executive members, to note that the society has to be built on good morals and not destroyed through evil deeds. “If the people can build a society where only the right candidates are allowed to rule, you will be the happier ones and the generations after you will have a better foundation to grow,” He stated.

He encouraged the students to go out on Election Day to exercise their franchise by voting for Dr. Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa and all PDP candidates in the Delta State House of Assembly race. He added that he decided to visit the body because they were an enlightened group that could change the average Nigerian youth way of thinking to become more patriotic by refusing to be used as thugs and miscreants on election days.

Responding, the speaker of the association Eyimaro Louis, expressed appreciation to Charles Mallam – Obi,for embarking on the visit and disclosed that as a body promoting Isoko culture in the institution, they lacked support from the Isoko political class and were not paid bursary as at when due. He however reaffirmed his group’s commitment to be law abiding on Election Day.
