Rotary Club Honours NUJ Warri Chapel Chairman, Others at Ughelli Investiture

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Warri Correspondents’ Chapel, Okakuro Akpokona Omafuaire Esq., was among prominent personalities honoured by the Rotary Club of Ughelli Metropolis during the investiture of its 18th President held on Sunday in Ughelli, Delta State.

Omafuaire received the Rotary Club’s Meritorious Service and Leadership Award in recognition of his outstanding leadership, commitment to community development, and contributions to societal advancement.

The award was presented by the newly installed President of the Rotary Club of Ughelli Metropolis, Rotarian Akpobome Rufus Ibebe, during the ceremony held at Wetland Hotel in Ughelli North Local Government Area.

In his acceptance remarks, Omafuaire dedicated the award to journalists across Delta State, the Chairman of the Body of Benchers in Nigeria, HRM King Albert Akpomudje, SAN, and his friends, describing the recognition as an encouragement to continue providing purposeful leadership and contributing to the growth of society.

He thanked the Rotary Club for the honour, assuring members that the recognition would inspire him to do even more in service to humanity.

Other recipients of Rotary awards at the event included Senator Ede Dafinone, representing Delta Central Senatorial District; Hon. Francis Ejiroghene Waive, representing Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives; and Hon. Matthew Omonade, member representing Ughelli North I Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly.

Earlier, while delivering his inaugural address, the newly installed President of the Rotary Club of Ughelli Metropolis, Rotarian Akpobome Rufus Ibebe, expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in him to lead the club.

He acknowledged the support and mentorship of the immediate past President, Rotarian Anne Atiku, as well as past leaders of the club, pledging not to take the responsibility entrusted to him for granted.

Ibebe said his administration would focus on strengthening the club’s membership and expanding impactful community service projects, particularly in education, healthcare, disease prevention and other humanitarian interventions.

He called on members of the club to support his administration, promising to lead with integrity, humility and accountability in advancing Rotary’s ideals of selfless service.
