Delta Poly Rector Advocates for Increased Research to Harness Nation’s Potential

Professor Emmanuel Ufuophu-Biri, Rector of Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe Oghara, has called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to intensify its focus on science-based infrastructure to harness the nation’s resources and manpower effectively.

Speaking at the institution’s 2nd inaugural lecture, Professor Ufuophu-Biri emphasized that such a focus is crucial to transforming Nigeria’s underdevelopment into economic prosperity.

During the lecture series titled “From Titbits to Network Systems: A Social Network Perspective,” held in the school’s main auditorium, Professor Ufuophu-Biri highlighted the need for readiness in addressing national challenges.

He urged that the country must be prepared to tackle difficulties to foster development and solve pressing issues.

The professor stressed the global shift towards conserving natural resources and driving innovation for accelerated development. He urged Nigeria to prioritize domesticating its economic resources to spur growth.

Professor Ufuophu-Biri also advocated for embracing digitalization and networking as essential tools for communication, intellectual engagement, and wealth creation.

He assured students of the institution’s commitment to supporting their development through technological advancements and the enhancement of academic programs.

He announced the nearing completion of a new administrative block and the re-roofing of the school’s modern stadium. The professor also presented a 2.5KVA fuel-less generator, developed by the institution, to the public.

Engr. Collins Oghenerhoro Oniyemofe, Dean of the School of Engineering, reported on the development of the generator and revealed plans for an automated pumping/drilling machine.

Professor Johnbull Ogheneyerhovwo Tonukari, Commissioner for Higher Education in Delta State, praised the rector’s achievements and encouraged other institutions to follow suit.

Mr. Akanmu Amidu Akinpelumi Gbolasere, a chief lecturer in the Department of Computer Science, delivered the lecture in the series.

Chief Barr. Andrew Orugbo, Chairman of the Board of the Governing Council, commended Professor Ufuophu-Biri for his excellent performance and significant contributions to the institution’s academic and administrative advancements.
