By Oghenetejiri Nyerhovwo
Olorogun Arthur Akpowowo, former Youth Leader, Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Delta state and the party’s House of Assembly candidate for Ethiope East Constituency has been berated for his recent comments on the stand of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) on governorship position coming to Delta central, the Uvwiamuge Declaration.
In a statement made available to our Correspondent in Warri and signed by Mr. Anthony Ogbodu, Secretary, Abraka Youth Movement (AYM), was of the opinion that he is the least qualified person to admonish the UPU, umbrella socio-cultural organization of the Urhobo on such matter.
The youth body called on the UPU to be resolute and remain focus in their determination to actualize the Uvwiamuge Declaration and should not be deterred by comments from the likes of Olorogun Akpowowo adding that Urhobo nation, largest ethnic nationality in the state deserves to best and nothing but the best as collaboration and synergy with neighbours would give Urhobo the needed edge as well as votes to become governor of the state.
The group was of the opinion that Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru, governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) won previous elections because he is the most popular candidate but allegedly denied by the “faulty system” hence he has not made it to Government House. Asaba adding that this time around, the ruling PDP would be shocked, alleging that the almost sixteen years of misrule of the ruling party has enough reasons to be given the boot by the electorates in the state.
The youth group said that the actions of the people like Olorogun Akpowowo is tantamount to alleged betrayal of the Urhobo cause.
